About the customer

Client is one of the largest telecommunications providers in the United States, serving tens of millions of subscribers across prepaid and postpaid consumer lines. The company processes massive daily transaction volumes spanning device activations, renewals, top-ups, and device protection plans.

Overview

Client needed to re-architect its Device Protection and Insurance platform — covering warranties, screen repairs, and loss coverage — to eliminate recurring production defects and introduce more flexible commercial bundles. Intellious embedded engineers directly alongside Client's development squads to modernize their Oracle Billing and Revenue Management (BRM) ecosystem, reverse-engineering an undocumented legacy billing system, automating most of a BRM 7.5 to AWS cloud migration, and stabilizing release workflows across distributed teams.

The Challenge

Years of accumulated, largely custom software created severe operational and development bottlenecks: three disconnected billing and provisioning instances kept falling out of sync, stalling order journeys, while an undocumented, unsupported SQL-based matrix billing system needed to be unified into BRM 12. Dozens of engineering squads modifying shared production files without clean branching boundaries caused frequent code collisions and regressions, making it difficult to launch new device insurance and warranty combinations quickly.

How Intellious Helped

Intellious reverse-engineered the undocumented matrix billing system to map a safe migration path into BRM 12, automated the bulk of the BRM 7.5 to AWS cloud migration using AI-assisted pipelines, and embedded with Client's teams to establish clean release and branching discipline across squads.

Business Impact

The collaboration turned fragile release cycles into a dependable, cloud-ready monetization engine - automating 90% of the AWS migration, ending cross-team code regressions through disciplined release governance, and achieving real-time sync between billing and provisioning systems. It also modernized an aging on-premise footprint into a resilient AWS environment and gave business teams the agility to launch new device protection bundles quickly.
